What Are Chrome Nails?
This is a type of manicure that uses different methods, such as nail polish or powder, to create a metallic, mirror-like finish. The chrome nail trend has been around for a few years but has been gaining more popularity recently. This is partly because of celebrity Hailey Bieber, who has been seen sporting the nails on several occasions.
The chrome finish is a popular request at nail salons nowadays, largely due to Beiber. However, it has been around for a while, and it's mostly popular because it can add dimension to both neutral and vivid tones. It's an upgrade from your favorite metallic lacquers, with a soft, dainty sheen that looks like molten metal.
Need A Chrome Manicure? Try Our Chrome Pigment Powder Pens
If you want to achieve chrome nails at home, we recommend using our Chrome Pigment Powder. This product is really easy to use, and it will give you salon-quality results.
There are several ways to apply this:
Application Instructions For Semi-Cured Gel
Step 1: Prep Your Nails
Before you start, make sure your nails are clean and free of any oils or residue. We recommend using acetone or alcohol to clean your nails and remove any oils.
Step 2: Adhere semi-cured gel strip to nails
Find the strip that fits your nails. Place the strip on your nail and press down to secure it. Usually, you'll need to cure your nails during this step, but for this mani, we won't be doing that.
Step 3: Rub Chrome Pigment Powder onto nails
Apply the chrome powder to your nails using the provided pens. Make sure to get an even coat and that there are no bald spots. You can also use a cotton swab to apply the powder if you prefer.
Step 4: Remove Excess Powder
Using a clean brush, remove any excess powder from your nails. You can also use a lint-free cloth to wipe away any powder that is left on your nails.
Step 3: Cure nails under a UV lamp
Now it's time to cure your nails! Place your hand under a UV lamp for 60 seconds or until the gel has hardened.
Step 4: Apply Top Coat
Apply a top coat of gel and cure it under the UV lamp. This will help seal in the chrome powder and give your nails a high-shine finish.
Application Instructions For Wet Gel Polish
Step 1: Apply Base Gel and Cure
Apply a base coat of gel polish to your nails and cure it under the UV lamp.
Step 2: Apply Chrome Gel or Clear Top Gel
Apply chrome gel or a clear top coat of gel to your entire nail. We recommend using a chrome gel because it will help the powder to adhere better and give you a more even finish.
Cure the gel for 10 seconds after applying it (with a 48-watt light for a few seconds longer with a 6-watt lamp). You don't want your gel to be fully cured at this point.
If you cure the gel completely, the Chrome pigment will not stick to the nails equally.
Step 3: Rub Chrome Pigment Powder on to nails
Now it's time to apply the chrome powder! Apply the powder to your nails using the provided pens. And as with the previous application method, make sure to get an even coat and that there are no bald spots. You can also use a cotton swab to apply the powder if you prefer. Also, remove excess powder with a clean brush as before.
Step 4: Cure under a UV lamp, Apply A Top Coat And Cure Again
Place your hand under a UV lamp for 60 seconds or until the gel has hardened. Then apply a top coat of gel and cure it under the UV lamp. This will help to seal in the chrome powder and give your nails a high-shine finish.
And there you have it! Now you know how to achieve the perfect chrome nails look at home.
Tips And Tricks
Here are some things we thought you should know:
1. If your chrome powder is not applying evenly to your nails when using wet gel, play around with the cure time.
2. The chrome powder may become streaky or will not stick to nail if the base gel is over-cured.
And when your nails are under-cured, the chrome powder will not be glossy and smooth. Instead, it will appear granular.
3. If your chrome nails are not as shiny as you would like, try applying a second layer of top coat.
4. If you want to add some extra sparkle to your mani, try mixing in some glitter with the chrome powder before applying it to your nails.
5. To avoid staining your nails when removing your mani, soak a cotton ball in acetone and press it onto your nails for a few minutes before gently rubbing the polish off.
