Glazed Donut Hailey Bieber Nails
The Glazed Donut nail design began with Hailey Bieber's request for clear white nails before her Met Gala appointment with Los Angeles-based nail artist Zola Ganzorigt. In an interview, Ganzorigt shares that she suggested that they try chrome nail powder on it after they put the color on. The end result blew them away.
Bieber's first nail treatment comprised of a gel manicure with O.P.I. polishes and a chrome powder—a loose powder manicurist apply post-polish for a sparkling effect—that is only available to professional nail technicians. However, like anything worn by Hailey, the internet went crazy trying to duplicate the look at home.Fortunately, we've created a guide to help you flawlessly create the glazed donut look with semi-cured gel nails
Step 1: Prep Your NailsStart with a clean slate by removing any old polish from your nails and pushing back your cuticles. We recommend using an e-file (an electric nail file) to gently buff away the surface of your nails for optimal polish adherence. But if you don't have one on hand, a regular emery board will do the trick too. Just be sure not to overdo it, as you don't want to damage your nails in the process. After this, take a warm washcloth and wrap it around your hand, dampening down the skin on your fingertips. Submerge your fingers in a bowl of lukewarm soapy water for a few moments. Using a wooden orange stick or metal cuticle pusher, carefully push back your cuticles—the translucent, thin layer of skin surrounding the edge of your nail.
Step 2: Put On Your Semi-cured Gel NailsNow that your nails are all prepped and ready to go, it's time to apply your semi-cured gel nails. We recommend using either Le Blanc (by Zinipin) or Creamy Syrup (by Gelato Factory) so that the glaze will really stand out. You can get both of these semi-cured gel nails from our store. To apply this:
- Match the gel nail sizes to your fingernails.
- Then remove the clear cover on the gel nail piece.
- After removing the clear cover, apply to your nails, making sure the edges are firmly pressed down on the sides and near the cuticle line.
- Once you're done, trim excess nail wrap with a nail clipper or scissor.
- Then Cure with UV lamp until gel wrap feels hard and smooth (about 1 to 2 minutes)
Step 3: Add ShimmerThe glistening finish on Bieber's nails—O.P.I.'s Chrome Effects "Tin Man Can"—isn't accessible to the general nail fanatic. However, you can use our Aurora Powder #07 to produce the same effect. Simply rub the Aurora Unicorn powder onto your nails after you're done with the step above. This powder comes in a variety of colors, so you can experiment with other shades like blue, green, or pink.
Step 5: Seal It In And Smooth Your SkinOnce this phase is done, and your nails have had at least 15 minutes to set—or however long it takes for them to feel dry to the touch—apply cuticle oil and a hand lotion to add an extra layer of protection to your nails while making your skin silky.
We recommend the Cuticle cape from Gellydrops. To apply, use the dropper to place a few drops of oil on each cuticle, then massage it in using your fingertips. Doing this once per week can make nails grow faster and stronger while making manicures last longer.
If you need hand cream, we suggest Kiehl's Ultimate Strength Hand Salve for a hand cream to leave skin supple and smooth, as it leaves the skin feeling moisturized while yet absorbing quickly. It's available in 2.5- and 5-ounce squeeze bottles.
